Francis .I. Okparaeke was a twenty-one year old brilliant boy with lots of prospect. His family was well respected one in the community and his father was a very strict man.

One day, as Francis was coming back from school, he met Cynthia .L. Ibeto who was sent to buy some provision from the supermarket.
Cynthia was a few meters away when a dog suddenly came out from nowhere. Petrified with terror, Cynthia turned and took to her heels. The dog barking excitedly like it had caught a thief came running after her. As Cynthia ran, people on the street also scampered for safety. Leaving Cynthia  at the mercy of the mad dog. Then she fell down, as she feel, the money she had in her left hand flew away as she hit the ground. The dog coming with uncontrollable speed, went pas her and then stopped right in front of her, turned and was poised to come back for her when a young boy came out from behind her and stood between her and the attacking dog, it was Francis. The dog barked, sized up its assailant and decided to forget the battle. It turned round and ran back to where it came from.
“Are you hurt?” Francis asked, stretching  out his hand to lift her up from the ground. “I have bruised my elbows and knees and have severly stained my nice dress and most parts of my body have been smeared with dirt.” She answered
“My Money!  I ve lost my money” she said.
“It’s alright. You calm down and together we would be able to find your money,” Francis assured her. And shortly afterwards, he found the money and handed it over to her. His house was few buildings away from there so he took her to his house and gave her some water with which she cleansed her herself. Cynthia was indeed very grateful and could not thank him enough for his help. She could see that Francis  couldn’t have been more than two years older than herself. It was later she discovered that Francis was twenty -one , which means he is a year older than Cynthia. Francis was a gentle and good looking boy. Although at that time, Cynthia had never been involved with opposite sex that much and had never been attracted to any boy. So she thought nothing of his good looks. She left and didn’t see him again until a week later when she was returning from school. She discovered that Francis really looked neat and smartly dressed.
‘Hello’ he greeted her and she answered, “You didn’t tell me your name before you left the other day.” He continued, “I even expected you’d drop by and say hello to me at least. Any way, my name is Francis. What is yours? He asked. Francis talked so confidently and for the first time in Cynthia ‘s life, she began to feel nervous in the presence of a boy.
“My-my    name    is      Cynthia,” she replied nervously. The were both walking along the street now and she had never done that with a boy all her life, particularly with a stranger. Her parents were so stern that they never allowed room for such to happen. It was always book, book  and more books. She had no choice than to become a book-worm who never had time for other things. It got to a stage that her friends became apprehensive of her bookworm tendencies. She really never had time fro boys thought she had grown into quite a big girl then and was blessed with exquisite beauty.
Her mother had made her believe that even shaking a boy’s hand will lead to pregnancy. So she was still a Virgin. She had been trained to particularly be worry of men because to her mother, men were nothing but bad news. But to Cynthia, there was something different about Francis. His gentle demeanor, disarming smile and good looks all swept her off her feet.Francis , asked if on her way back from school the following days, she would be nice enough to call on him and she promised she would.
The night of that very day, Cynthia could hardly sleep. The thought of Francis occupied her heart. And finally when she dozed off, she began to dream about him. Even the next day in class was like a torture for her. It seemed to her that it was going to take eternity before the closing bell rang. School closed for the day and she started going to Francis’s house. When Cynthia saw him outside the house, from afar, she became jittery. As she got to his place, Francis smiled, ushered her in to a sitting room that was sparsely furnished; It turned  out that Francis was living with his uncle who had brought him from the village to Owerri where he completed his secondary education. Francis’s uncle, unmarried at that time, was a business man who seldom slept at home as his business took him from one state to another.
“Cynthia, do you know you r beautiful girl? Francis started. And Cynthia could not answer, All this while, Francis was sitting on the other seat directly opposite Cynthia. But when he stood up and went to seat beside her, Cynthia became uncomfortable. She knew what Francis wanted to do next. “I love you Cynthia, I’m in love with you,” Francis said. There was no debut that Cynthia too was in love with Francis. He asked Cynthia if she loved him in return, and she replied in the affirmative.
